Indigo Cat by OneCrazyCleric Indigo Cat by OneCrazyCleric
8x10 inches
Acrylic on board

Color aside, this cat is of a Siberian variety. Siberians are distant cousins to the Norwegian forest cats: this means that they are bulky, long-haired, and smart as the dickens. We had one when I was a kid, a mammoth of a feline who was loyal as a dog to my grandmother. His name was "Barsik", which translates into "little snow leopard".

I guess that's saying something for my brain, then... Haven't tried any kind of mind-altering substances, outside of alcohol.

Thanks. It started out as trying to work in Russian folk arts, and turned into something else entirely.

Oops, it was supposed to be Laurel Long, not Kong. I made a typo, sorry :p  I do hope you will enjoy her stunning artwork though. I think you might :)

Oh, I'm so happy that you like her work! I just become absolutely lost in her glorious paintings. Sadly, I do not know which medium she uses. I found her by happy accident, years ago: Amazon recommended one of her books based on other children's books I'd purchased. So, I got the Magic Nesting Doll for my daughter. We probably read it together a hundred times. It is now one of our favourite childhood memories. Her books are so special to us :)  Your art is really lovely...I bet Ms. Long would be a fan!!

I ended up contacting her, and apparently she uses oils on a smooth surface.. For what it's worth, as far as illustrators go, do check out the work of Maxim Mitrofanov. -  cizgilimasallar.blogspot.com/2…

Wow, I'm glad you discovered the materials she uses. You have a colouring book with wolves?? I bet my son would love that. He really loves to color. Is it on your website? I've yet to see your wolves, but would like to.

I'm Kimber, by the way, and I'm in Tennessee. My mom was born in Virginia though. And Art was actually my minor in college, so I truly love all kinds of art. Are you familiar with the Pre Raphaelites? I absolutely am in love with that style, the Arthurian paintings, Lady of Chalot, etc. After becoming a parent, though, I soon realized what an incredible array of children's illustrators there are out there. When the kids and I discovered Laurel Long, I was just gobsmacked. I also got to meet Karen Gillard when I used to work at the company that published her earlier works. She told me she used a paintbrush dipped in bleach, then flicked it on her water colors. She is also a big fan of Loreena McKennit :) She autographed one of her books for me as well :)

I'll look for you on Facebook, ok?

No, it just came out earlier this month.. It's just a little promotional thing (12 pages) for the local main street program, which hosts a public art project, featuring wolves. Example from one of the pages: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-_XAn-8T_SU8…

Hi, Kimber! ;> Pleasure to meet'cha. Where are you at, in Tennessee, if I may ask? We're just on the border of TN/VA.. Tri-cities area.
Am not familiar with Pre-Raphaelites.. looks like 've got some searching to do. Of them, and of the other names you've mentioned.

Apologies for the late reply-- thing have been crazy here, as always...

Howdy! I'm in Clarksville, actually. Which is about 30 miles from Nashville, close to the border of Kentucky. I can't believe you're on the border of my state! My mom was actually born in VA...near Pentington Gap. Have you heard of it. My Great Granny lived in a tiny, little house there, until she died at age 90. Her house was so old fashioned...cast iron skillets, pot bellied stove. I used to go there as a kid, but haven't been back in a while. Both my folks are originally from East Tennessee.

Oh, what is your name, by the way? I promise I'll look at your link in a bit, to see your wolves. We actually love wolves. They are intensely intelligent and mystical creatures. Have you ever been to the Cherokee reservation in east TN/NC? Oh wow, it's amazing there. Do you ever get over to the Smoky Mtns? Fall is so gorgeous there.

Let's see...the Pre Raphaelites were sort of like a club of sorts. They were rather unhappy with the way art was going (1800s, I believe), and wanted to see art return to its roots, to the old masters, like DaVinci, Michaelangelo, etc. They often painted scenes from Camelot, etc, with Knights, Arthur, Guinevere, etc. I first learned about them in an Art History class in College. I really love anything Camelot. Have you ever seen the BBC's "Merlin"? It is fantastic!

It is really nice to meet you, btw!! Bye for now, Kimber

This is stunning. Kind of reminds me of Laurel Kong's artwork. Are you familiar with her? She illustrates children's books, such as "The Magic Nesting Doll". You might want to Google her :)
